about

Phil Maguire plays analog synthesizers and Max patches.
Anne La Berge plays flutes and electronics.

They come together through their love of structures that slowly evolve through extended time.
When they are together, they play detailed drones that color the perception of time and place.

Reviews:

Touching Extremes:
"The atmosphere turns from relatively ethereal to discreetly ominous; think Eliane Radigue and Thomas Lehn perking up the ears to uncanny murmurs in a pre-earthquake setting."

“Virtually impossible to second-guess what directions Maguire might wish to be taking us, yet while we’re here under this steel canopy it seems the most natural place on earth.”- The Sound Projector

Anne La Berge’s passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led her to storytelling and sound art as her sources of musical inspiration. Her music gathers the elements on which her reputation is based: ferocious virtuosity, microtonal textures and melodies, and her unique array of extended flute techniques, all combined with interactive electronic processing and text.

She can be heard on the Largo, Artifact, Etcetera, Hat Art, Frog Peak, Einstein, X-OR, Unsounds, Canal Street, Rambo, esc.rec., Intackt, Data and verz labels which include recordings with Ensemble Modern, Gert Jan Prins, John Fonville, Guy de Bievre, Apricot My Lady, Big Zoom, Corkestra, La Joe Williamson, MAZE and Phil Maguire.

Recent appearances include Ars Electronica Linz, Aotearoa Electronic Music Festival Wellington NZ and The Audio Foundation Auckland NZ.

“La Berge is a precursor of some of the important things contemporary composition has now come to mean.” The Wire
